Top shells are spiral cone shape shells that live mostly in shallow water, grazing on micr-algae near the shore. They get their name from their shape like an old-fashioned spinning top.

The scientific name for top shell is "umbilicalis" which comes from the large hole on int's underside, like a belly button.

Clean shells with mild soap and use baby oil or mineral oil to give them a shiny coat and help them last longer.
